Saul D. Sugarman joined Hendricks Law, P.C. after spending 20 years as a journalist, bringing with him significant experience covering legal affairs as a reporter for the Daily Journal. As a jack-of-all-trades, Sugarman infused Hendricks Law with his breadth of knowledge across graphic design, marketing and content creation, helping the firm create and convey modern, cohesive branding.
In his early career, Sugarman covered financial news with The Wall Street Journal Asia, where he overhauled video content for one of its properties—the Far Eastern Economic Review—and interviewed notable authors Margaret Atwood and Min Jin Lee for the Sunday WSJ newspaper. He then became a multimedia producer Bloomberg News in Hong Kong, where he edited hundreds of video and audio clips, and produced packages for Bloomberg TV.
In San Francisco, Sugarman covered local news for a year, then quickly distinguished himself by winning multiple awards from the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club for his coverage of California superior courts at the Daily Journal. In more than five years at the Daily Journal, Sugarman covered all manner of employment, antitrust, patent, real estate, tax and many other legal matters on a general assignment beat. His assignments took him to the Northern District, 9th Circuit and other appellate courts, the state Supreme Court and even peer court. He began at the Daily Journal’s Palo Alto office, covering corporate counsel.
After the Daily Journal, Sugarman became an LGBTQ event producer in San Francisco’s Castro and SoMa neighborhoods, and he also wrote a cocktail and nightlife column for the San Francisco Examiner. He began an apparel business in 2015, with pieces worn on Miley Cyrus and featured in television commercials, music videos, and at San Francisco red carpet soirées. His events and garments have been noted by The Advocate, The New York Times, San Francisco Magazine and San Francisco Chronicle.
In his spare time away from Hendricks Law, P.C., Sugarman still occasionally writes stories. He most recently covered the Elizabeth Holmes trial for the Daily Beast.
